Friday Night – come dance to the tunes of these amazing lady DJs and vote for your favorite to win!
Jessica Shaffer – Denver, CO
Jessica is thrilled to DJ again for Rocky Mountain Girl Jam! A Colorado Native, Jessica has been in the dance scene since 2007. She completely latched onto all things swing, including of course, the music. Jessica DJ’s regularly in the Denver Lindy Hop scene, and has had the opportunity to DJ for many events in Denver, Albuquerque, Portland, and Omaha. Paying tribute to both original recordings and modern jazz bands, Jessica obsesses over the details of the music. It’s the perfect recipe to dance the night away.
Cindiasaurus Rex – Tampa, FL
Cindiasaurus Rex fell in love with jazz in college when she took a variety of jazz history and theory classes shortly after learning to lindy. Through years of Djing at events and local dances across the southeast, she has tirelessly refined her library to include the best of Big Band, Dixieland, and Vocal Jazz with the occasionally super juicy slow New Orleans jazz tune. Expect at least one song appearance from Artie Shaw whenever you see her, because that man played the clarinet in ways that make her wanna – well… you get the idea.
Jessica Nelson – Denver, CO
Jesse loves expressing herself to jazz and blues music and takes any opportunity to share that passion with others, which includes DJing, teaching, performing, and competing. She began DJing for swing dancers soon after she learned the dance herself back in 2003 and since then has DJed at events like Beantown Camp, Midwest Lindy Fest, 505 Stomp, Atlanta Varsity Showdown and SwingIN. Jesse can’t get enough of swing-era artists like Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, and Billie Holiday, and is excited to spin her collection for Rocky Mountain Girl Jam attendees.
Rachael Ries – Portland, OR
Rachael discovered Lindy Hop in 1999. She has done her fair share of competing, teaching, and helping to build the dance scenes in Seattle and Portland. She was an original member of Zah Zu Zay and Seattle’s chorus girl group, Sister Kate. She began DJing in 2009 and continues to have fun picking songs and getting dancers out on the floor. She’s been privileged to DJ for events such as the Corvallis Swing and Blues weekends, Northwest Follow Fest and Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown in 2015. Rachael currently dances and DJ’s in Portland and is a performer and co-director of the all girls group, The Portland Rhythm Shakers.
